Even though the movie was made in 1952, when Irish American director John Ford shot his classic movie The Quiet Man in Ireland in and around the village of Cong, County Mayo, and on the grounds of Cong’s Ashford Castle, interest in the movie has never been stronger. The village of Cong and the surrounds have become a pilgrimage of sorts for lovers of this movie.

Dirty word alert… WALK. Our flights got delayed 3x due to plane issues and we missed our tour group in Dublin so after checking in, we went for a walk. Saw so much at our pace. Beautiful parks, lovely historic buildings & found a Harley shop for T-shirt souvenir. During tour stop, others went to a pub and we walked around, and found a boat tour of Shannon River. After dinner one night, we met a local in the hotel bar and went on a pub crawl. Just remember to slow down and enjoy why you chose Ireland
