Welcome to County Cavan, a captivating region in Ireland that boasts not only stunning landscapes but also the distinction of being the home of the Shannon Pot, the source of the mighty River Shannon.

County Cavan unfolds as a tapestry of rolling hills, serene lakes, and lush countryside. However, it is the Shannon Pot that stands as a symbolic and geographical centerpiece, marking the beginning of Ireland's longest river.

What is “The Shannon Pot”?

The Shannon Pot is a unique geological feature located on the slopes of Cuilcagh Mountain in Ireland. The pool, which is approximately 16 meters in diameter, was first explored by divers in 1971 to a depth of 6 meters. Further explorations have taken place and it has been discovered that the water comes from a 2-meter wide fissure that is located at a depth of 9.5 meters.
