Dublin Airport will implement a seat cap during Summer 2025 to prevent exceeding the 32 million passenger limit next year.
However, daa, the authority responsible for Dublin Airport, has warned of significant repercussions not only for airlines but for the entire country. The seat cap is expected to result in the removal of one million seats from the summer schedule, potentially causing economic damage estimated between €500 million and €700 million.
The ongoing issues related to the 32 million passenger cap have been described as a problem for the whole of Ireland. daa CEO Kenny Jacobs stated that while they support the IAA’s decision, they are awaiting a planning resolution.
“A million seats being removed next year will have serious financial consequences for Ireland. We estimate the economic damage to be at least €500 million, rising to €700 million if we include lost airfare revenue.
“There are also real consequences for airlines, airport workers, and the travelling public, alongside the knock-on effects on tourism and employment. This is no longer just an airport or planning issue; it is now a national issue for Ireland."
