A group of German travel agents representing 14 different travel agencies has been touring the South West of Ireland this week, experiencing the region's wide range of attractions. The visit, organised by Tourism Ireland in collaboration with Fáilte Ireland and the German tourism foundation Willy Scharnow-Stiftung, aims to boost awareness of Ireland as a top holiday destination for German tourists.
The trip provided an opportunity for the agents to experience first-hand what makes Ireland, and particularly Cork and Kerry, so appealing. This will help them better advise their clients when planning and booking holidays to Ireland. By immersing themselves in the local culture and landscape, the agents are expected to return home with a deeper understanding of the region’s unique charm.
The group’s itinerary was packed with highlights showcasing the beauty and culture of Cork and Kerry. The agents embarked on a boat trip across the picturesque lakes of Killarney and enjoyed a traditional jaunting car tour through the scenic Gap of Dunloe. The visit also included a stop at the Killarney Brewing & Distilling Co., giving them a taste of local craftsmanship.
In Cork, the group explored the city's rich history with guided tours of Cork City Gaol, the Titanic Experience in Cobh, and the Cobh Heritage Centre. A walking tour of Cork city allowed them to soak up the vibrant atmosphere and learn about the area’s cultural and historical significance.
Siobhán McManamy, Director of Markets at Tourism Ireland, expressed her optimism about the visit: "Germany is an important market for Irish tourism, and we’re delighted to showcase Cork and Kerry to these travel professionals. Their enthusiasm for our landscapes, history, and hospitality will surely inspire more German visitors to come and explore Ireland."
This visit is part of ongoing efforts by Tourism Ireland to strengthen ties with key markets like Germany, which consistently ranks as one of the top sources of overseas visitors to Ireland. As these agents return home with a wealth of knowledge and personal experiences, Irish tourism stands to benefit from their renewed passion for the Emerald Isle.
