What happened at Tully Castle?
The castle, formerly owned by Sir John Hume until then, was attacked and burned to the ground by Rory Maguire and his men, with all its inhabitants massacred in the process.
Talk about a Christmas surprise – and one nobody wanted to receive!
With its intimidating bawn, Tully Castle was considered a powerful stronghold, so it’s no wonder that locals still talk in hushed tones of the dreaded incident even today. Needless to say, the castle has never been lived in again since then.

Soda Farls are a flat soda bread cut into four equal pieces cooked on a griddle or skillet as opposed to soda bread which is baked in the oven. It originates from Northern Ireland.
This is a basic 4 ingredient Farl Recipe. For a brown version replace half of the the flour with whole-wheat flour.
