Every year, Time Magazine in the United States selects an individual who has made a significant impact on global events just before Christmas. In a recent announcement, the renowned publication named global superstar Taylor Swift as the Person of the Year for 2023, recognizing her achievement after her Eras tour set new box office records.

The Time award seeks to identify the person who has had the most profound influence on global events each year, and the magazine is known for its occasionally controversial choices. Notable selections include Donald Trump after his election as US President in 2016 and Adolf Hitler in 1938, following his annexation of Austria.

Now, the question arises: Who would be Ireland’s person of the year? It’s time to cast your vote and add your pick to the list.

Shane Macgowan’s Family Dances To “Fairytale Of New York” At His Funeral As It Storms To No 1 On The Irish Charts

Shane MacGowan, the lead singer of The Pogues, was given a special and heartfelt farewell at his funeral in County Tipperary. The ceremony, held in the town of Nenagh, brought together hundreds of people who wanted to say their final goodbyes to the legendary songwriter, who passed away at the age of 65.

The church in Nenagh was filled to the brim with friends, family, and fans who gathered both inside and outside to honour MacGowan’s memory. Among those present were some of his famous friends, including Nick Cave, Johnny Depp, and Bob Geldof, adding to the star-studded farewell.

One of the most unique and touching moments of the funeral was when MacGowan’s family decided to pay tribute to him in a special way. During the ceremony, they chose to dance to “Fairytale of New York,” one of The Pogues’ most iconic songs. The emotional and spirited dance became a symbol of celebration, commemorating MacGowan’s life and contributions to the world of music.
