Frustrated with False Claims? Discover the Real Temple Bar Anthem!
Irish singer Billy Treacy has dismissed country star Nathan Carter's assertion that he was the first to write a song about Temple Bar, Dublin's iconic pub district.
Treacy, a Dubliner, revealed that he had released a song titled "Temple Bar" two years prior to Carter's claim. The 45-year-old expressed frustration that the Liverpool-born musician had declared on Friday's "The Late Late Show" that his song title was original.
“If Nathan had checked Google before releasing his version, he would have seen it wasn’t the first,” Treacy told the Irish Mirror. “I wrote my song three years ago and released it two years ago. It is totally different from Nathan Carter’s song, so I don’t want to come across as having sour grapes, but he acts like his song is the only one out there titled ‘Temple Bar’.”
Treacy’s song offers a gritty portrayal of Temple Bar, highlighting issues like pickpockets and overpriced beer, while Carter’s version presents a more sanitized view of the area. Carter, whose album "Stayin’ Up All Night" has soared to the top of the charts, mentioned that he wrote his song after visiting Temple Bar during some time off. “I decided to write a song about Temple Bar because there had never been a Dublin song written about Temple Bar,” Carter stated.
Treacy's version, released in 2014, has been played widely across various radio stations, focusing on the darker aspects of the famous nightlife spot.
