The High Kings, consisting of Finbarr Clancy, Darren Holden, Brian Dunphy, and the newest member Paul O’Brien, formed in June 2007 when David Kavanagh identified a gap in the market for a band specializing in traditional Irish music. Initially joined by former member Martin Furey, the group quickly realized during their first rehearsal that their harmonizing voices created something extraordinary. Playing 13 instruments among them, The High Kings crafted a unique sound and atmosphere that propelled their self-titled debut album to number 2 on the Billboard World Music chart. In March 2009, they sold out five consecutive shows at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre, solidifying their reputation.
Their second studio album, “Memory Lane,” licensed to Universal Music Ireland, went platinum just four months after its February 2010 release. Their subsequent “Live in Ireland” album received critical acclaim, capturing the band’s energetic live performances. By 2011, The High Kings were playing larger venues in Ireland, America, and Europe, attracting a dedicated fanbase who followed them across the globe. Their 2013 album “Friends for Life,” licensed to Sony Worldwide, featured original songs that quickly became audience favorites. In November 2014, they recorded “Four Friends Live” at the Millennium Forum in Derry, their first joint CD/DVD. Their 2016 “Grace & Glory” album topped the Irish Indie charts, leading to extensive tours. Over their 12-year journey, they released four studio albums, two live albums, and two DVDs, celebrating a decade of success with the 2017 compilation album “Decade.”
Performing for President Obama in 2012 and at the White House St. Patrick’s Day celebration, The High Kings showcased their global appeal. They were invited to the Pentagon in 2015 and recorded a version of the Irish Rugby anthem “Ireland’s Call” in 2016. As of 2019, The High Kings continue to set the bar for Irish Folk bands, performing in sold-out venues worldwide and captivating an ever-growing, multi-generational fanbase.
